Our little Democrat
Payton called me in to the office just now (she's on the computer doing school work). She said "I think I know why the White House is called the white house. Because it's mostly whites that have lived there." Man, 7 years old is great. Last week she made a little sign and glued it to a chop stick that said 'I Love Obamu.' When she showed her friend Claire on Thursday they were suddenly in to politics mode. Claire said "McCain wanted to kill all the Polar Bears!" HP
Payton has been really gung ho about reading Harry Potter lately. We were bogged down in Goblet of Fire for a long time, and then we started reading voraciously. I read it to her and I do all the voices. We got through Order of the Phoenix and are now about 200 pages into Half Blood Prince. We often read in the hot tub, which we call "Harry Potter... In the water." Then it snowed this week, so we call it "Harry Po... In the Snow!" When we read in bed, I call it "Harry Potter... with my daughter." We're going through about a chapter a day, sometimes 2. We did 3 chapters on Sunday. | | Wednesday, November 26th, 2008 | | 10:18 pm |
Dream I'm in mom and dad's bed. I wake up and there's a big black scorpion (about 6-8 inches or maybe a foot long) right next to me, about to sting me. I jump up to get away from it. Then I see mom and dad lying on the floor next to the bed. I see two larger scorpions run away. I think thy stung mom and dad. They're running around the house.
Later, there's a huge scorpion outside, as big as a bus, or bigger. It starts to eat me. | | Monday, November 17th, 2008 | | 8:49 am |
Dreams 1. I look out the sliding glass door because I want to go out and pet Darien, but I don't see him there. I look all over the yard and can't find him, even out in front of the house. It's cold and it's snowing.
I look in the back yard again, and there is a beautiful unicorn there. Darien is on its back. Darien can talk and tells me he's made friends with the unicorn. Darien is licking the unicorn.
2.I am a raccoon. I am friends with Sharpie (one of the raccoons who lives in our yard and comes to visit often), and also with Momma (ditto). My mom and dad are standing in the house watching us, and talking to us. Mom kisses Momma on the nose. | | Sunday, November 16th, 2008 | | 8:41 pm |
Chicken Pox
I have chicken pox! Mom took me to two chicken pox parties a couple of weeks ago. After about 2 years of trying, I finally have it. Best to get it over with and have the immunity. | | Saturday, October 25th, 2008 | | 7:26 pm |

Paytonese joke
Payton explained that this is a very funny joke in Paytoneseland, but that we might not understand it here: Q: Why is 15 afraid of 100? A: Because 100 makes fun of 15 because he's so much smaller | | 11:36 am |

Dreams
Lately, my dreams are always the same: I'm watching a movie, and the characters from the movie are there watching the movie with me. for example: I'm at home, about to sit down to watch The Beauty and the Beast. I go into the living room and Belle is there. She's started the movie already. Belle looks like a cartoon, just like in the movie I'm watching the power puff girls. The girls are here at my house too. I'm wearing my Bubbles outfit, and it says "Bubbles" across the front. Bubbles says to me "Bubbles? That's MY name!" Then we all play together. | | Friday, August 29th, 2008 | | 8:49 pm |
Rock-climbing
I went to the Evergreen Fair with mom and some friends. I climbed all the way to the top of the climbing wall! | | Monday, August 25th, 2008 | | 12:19 am |
Dream I'm at the movies to see Harry Potter And The Order of the Phoenix. A guy comes in and sits next to me, and it's Harry Potter. (not Daniel Radcliffe, but the real Harry Potter). | | Thursday, July 10th, 2008 | | 9:01 pm |
Live and learn
Dad met us at St. Edwards park tonight to see the concert there. He was walking through the woods and found a bright blue robin's egg that had fallen from a nest, and he brought it to me. I wanted to show my friend Claire, so I took it and went running off. Dad called after me that it might be a better idea to keep it here and bring Claire to see it. Well, I accidentally smashed it. The insides of the egg were all over me. And I was really sad because it was a really rare find and I only had it a few minutes. Dad said I should take it as a lesson - precious things should be treated carefully and not carried around. I cried for a long time. | | Friday, June 13th, 2008 | | 11:14 pm |

Wings of Eagles track meet today.
[Excerpted from a mail daddy wrote to a friend] It was an emotional first track meet for Payton today at Chief Sealth high school in Weast Seattle (Wings of Eagles meet). We’ve been trying to prepare her all year for the fact that she’d be in a higher division and wouldn’t be a star like Cross Country last year, but the actual experience of being in a meet and being dead last was really tough for her. After her first event (the 400 meter run), she wanted to go home and not run any more. Her coach and I gave her a pep talk, and she went out and ran the 100 meter and felt much better about it. She was in denial about being last in that race, because she and another girl came across the line together, and it was really close. Still, she was happy, and she was excited about running the 4x1 relay. Then while they were warming up for the relay, one of the girls in her relay team managed to step on Payton’s hand with her track spikes. Ouch! Payton came to me crying with a bleeding hand and wanted to go straight home. It was really tough to have to tell her that no, she had to go finish the race. If she had pulled out, her entire relay team would have forfeited the race. And as much as her hand hurt, it wasn’t going to impact her running. It took a while, but she finally went back for more practice, and then she ran the relay. She did a great job and afterwards she was all smiles, and she and the girl who stepped on her hand wound up playing together for a while before we went home. Her coach was really proud of her for stepping up and running with the injured hand, and Payton clearly felt proud of herself and was showing extra confidence afterwards. By the time I got home, I felt like *I*’d been running all day! The first meet of the season was last week, but Payton got sick the night before, so we skipped it. Here are her times from the meet: 400 meter: 1:54:07 100 meter 24:76 | | Saturday, May 3rd, 2008 | | 2:42 pm |
A sunny day dance
I got sick last night, so I had to miss my first track meet today. Instead, dad made up songs on the piano and I danced to them. | | Sunday, March 30th, 2008 | | 12:17 pm |
Treasure maps
So, I like making treasure hunts for Payton - you know, she wakes up to a note that gives her a clue, and that leads to another note, and so on. On easter sunday, she had to go through 14 clues to find her Ostara basket. They included ciphered messages that she had to figure out using a key, and a few math problems. So, I came home from work last week, and when I closed the door, there was a pink note on the door: So, I went to her play area in the living room, and looked around. On the piano, I found this: Naw.. it is wer your bed is So, I went into the bedroom, and there was a framed picture of her with the final note: | | Thursday, March 6th, 2008 | | 1:35 pm |

Dream
I'm so excited - I've been having only bad dreams when I sleep in my own bed lately, but last night I had my first good dream ever in my own bed! I am at an aquarium. Usually in my dreams everybody already has their shoes on and I'm the last person to get their shoes on, but this time I'm the first person to get my shoes on. We went to this fish tank, and there were sea monsters in it from the IMAX movie Sea Monsters Alive In 3D (http://www.nationalmediamuseum.org.uk/FilmAndIMAX/Film_detail.asp?FilmID=7006&class=imax). There was a dolly in the tank - a dolly is grey on top and white on the bottom, with black eyes. There were lots of them swimming around and playing in the tank. Dolichorhynchops (Dolly) There was also a big sea monster sort of like an alligator, but bigger and fatter. Mosasaur | | Wednesday, February 6th, 2008 | | 1:56 am |
Dream
(this was a few weeks back) Mom and dad and I are crawling around in heating ducts in the ceiling. I fall through a hole in the ceiling, all the way down to the floor. | | 1:52 am |
Tooth update
I never posted about my fourth lost tooth. It was dangling from one corner for about a week and it was so ready. It finally came out at the Barnes and Noble in Medford, when I was there with Nana and Mom and Dad on our way down to California for Christmas vacation. The tooth fairy in Medford must not know what I like, because she didn't bring me any flowers in our hotel room - just money. Dad said that it's too much work for one tooth fairy to cover the whole world (Santa's about got that game sewed up), so there are probably local tooth fairies all over the place. |
